Allow me to say, when we ignore the problems that are plaguing our families, communities etc, eventually will hit back at us.  How I wish all leaders who get involved and or who condone corruption would get the taste of their own medicine as it happens to Mrs. Koyo in the following short story.

The meeting starts at 10 a.m. in the boardroom in the confines of City Council.  Mrs. Koyo the Financial Director of the same council is in no hurry to deal with the menace of the street urchins.  Their presence in the streets of  "The City Under the Sun," raises concern.  One week would not pass without hearing that someone's wrist watch, necklace or handbag has been snatched.  Yes, their parents who live in abject poverty in the slums, have trained them how to do it.  While their mothers sit in obscure joints of the streets, the urchins go round looking for whom to devour.  They are also trained to use weapons like human waste matter and urine.  They will hold containers that have urine or waste matter, they ask you for money and they straight away warn," if you do not co-operate, then how about a splash of this on you!"             "There are more important matters to discuss, than about those little brats on the street," Mrs. Koyo said in a raised voice, at the astonishment of everyone.  Funds from well wishers and even the government have been channeled through the City Council, to initiate a project to rehabilitate these children.  However, whenever the issue is raised regarding commencement of the project, Mrs. Koyo will  go round in circles.  This raises a public concern..

A time comes, when the "City Under the Sun," is priviledged to host a symposium whose theme is "how to make our city environment better."  It will be attended by deligates from ten nations.  Mrs. Koyo is appointed the chief organizer.  She is to be assisted by one Mr. Kirinya who works with a Non Governmental Organisation.  Her Secretary gets overwhelmed by work, as Mrs. Koyo always does her preparations on the eleventh hour.   She has to cope with  a lot of typing and a host of calls coming into her office.   At last the Secretary can breath as she hands over the work to her.
The symposium starts on a Wednesday and goes through until Friday.

Its Wednesday morning, the symposium is scheduled for 9 a.m.   She gets out of her office, smartly dressed in an expensive skirt suit.  Her hair and nails well done.  She drives her car but will have to park it in the basement of Unicorn House an 18 storey building at the city centre.   The venue of the symposium is Amani  International Conference Centre, just a ten minutes walk from Unicorn House,  She manages to get parking.  She comes out, walking in in pomp like an executive woman but before she crosses the road, lo and behold two urchins confront her.
"Madam, some money for bread," one of the pleaded.
"Stay out of my way," Mrs. Koyo said angrily.  The urchins threatened her with their cans of waste matter and urine.  But this will not cower Mrs. Koyo.  They repeated their request, but she ignored them.  Within a twinkling of an eye, the first urchin splashed the urine at her back.  She turns to rebuke him, but before she knows it, the second urchin splashes the waste matter at her chest ruining her expensive suit.
She screams!  On lookers and those passing by, gather around her to sympathise.  But one irate man shouted  "She stinks more than the urine and the feces."  Some people started heckling.  She needed a taxi and very fast!  But the prestigious taxis packed nearby would not take her in that state.  A man with a ramshackle car offered to give her a ride to go home and change.  She calls her Secretary to tell Mr. Kirinya that she has had a small accident and she will be late say for an hour.  The Secretary does as instructed.  Its 9 a.m. Mrs. Koyo is nowhere.  The Minister for Environment has arrived with his Permanent Secretary. Mr. Kirinya has no option, but to pass an apology and explain that the organizer has been involved in a minor accident but all the same he invited the Minister to officially open the symposium.

Two hours later, Mrs. Koyo arrives and sits in the rear.  She only said to herself, "I wish I knew....."
